DotNetNuke Free Skins

I am only just starting to look at DotNetNuke skins.

This website looks like a good place to start for free skins.
www.dnnskins.com

Somewhere it says that Nina's first DotNetNuke skin, the first skin on this page, is still the most downloaded.
www.dnnskins.com/ninas-free-skins.aspx

If you click on the first DotNetNuke skin and you get to here
http://xdnewdesignaway.dnnskins.com/
where there seems to be a somewhat helpful explanation.

1. Article: DotNetNuke

DotNetNuke is a website content management application that lets
you update your websites yourself.

How easy is it.

With DotNetNuke, the next time you are looking at your website
and see something you want changed, all you need to do is click
on the little edit icon next to the entry and make your changes.

If you make a mistake, no problem, there is a recyle bin.

When Bill Gates stepped down from running the business of Microsoft
he made himself head of technology. He had a vision of how software
could work together, which he called Dot Net.

To showcase the power of Dot Net, Microsoft wrote the precursor to
DotNetNuke and gave it away for free. Other people since, with
Microsoft support, have taken over the project.

DotNetNuke is a phenomenal content management system that lets an
ordinary person's website have the power of the most sophisticated
websites.

Whether your website is one page that only changes occassionally
or a complex interactive website with lots of updaters, or anything
in between, DotNetNuke is by far the easiest way to manage your website.

Built on the Dot Net platform, DotNetNuke simplies management
both for the website owner and the technical support person.

DotNetNuke comes with a framework for your website, with menus,
user registration, logon, security, skins to change the appearance,
and many modules for different kinds of content.

There is a large add-on market of free and for-a-fee modules that
enhance DotNetNuke.

You can have announcements, blogs, events, forums, newsletters,
stores, wikis and much more, all with the latest website technology,
the equal of any of the most popular websites.

All of which is configurable to your tastes.

Built in are features that enhance your website for your visitors
with no work on your part. Visitors can search your entire website.
They can minimize sections of your page so they can more easily
see the content that they want.

DotNetNuke is search engine optimized. Plus, you can enable
comments, ratings and social bookmarking, to further help
your getting found on searches.

DotNetNuke is free. You can download and install DotNetNuke
yourself from www.DotNetNuke.com.

If you prefer, you can run your website on one of our DotNetNuke
installations. We take care of all the technical details. We buy
modules to enhance DotNetNuke and make them available to you. We
also train you and provide technical support. Contact us to get
running right away. See www.Webhosting.vg

2. Article: Free Tools Audacity and Paint

Microsoft has a lot of good programmers and they can write
a lot of software. As Windows was growing, Microsoft programmers
gobbled up more and more programs pulling them into Windows or
Office and giving them away for free with those products.

Many software companies that specialized in individual applications
went out of business as Microsoft swallowed up their fields.

After the lawsuits with Netscape and Quicken, Microsoft has
taken a different approach in certain instances, at least it
seems that way to me. One of these is with Paint.net.

Microsoft includes a weak graphics program called Paint with Windows.
Microsoft is capable of writing a graphics software package that could
put Photoshop and the rest out of business and give it away for free.
I imagine they might have one in-house, but I suppose to avoid more
lawsuits, they have avoided including one in Windows.

However, they supported the Paint.net project, which is a powerful,
free graphics program, which you can find here.
www.getpaint.net

Or if you prefer, you can try this free image editing program
www.gimp.org

For audio editing see the excellent and free Audacity
www.audacity.sourceforge.net

You can record and edit audio with no restrictions on length.

3. Article: Ftp Network Places

Are you using an Ftp program to update files on websites?

They are useful and I use them frequently, but another
convenient way to update online folders is using Windows
network places.

In the address bar of any Windows or Internet Explorer window,
type ftp:// followed by your website, like:

ftp://www.computergainesville.com

The first time, Windows will prompt you for your username
and password. You will then have opened another Windows
folder that works like any of your other Windows folders,
mostly.

4. Article: Copy From Left to Right

Developing good habits can save you time and avoid errors.
This is true in life and in your use of computers.

You can be more efficient and accurate by establishing
good procedures for yourself.

One I use is this.

Whenever I need to copy information from one place to another,
I put the window I am copying from on the left side of my
monitor. I put the window I am copying to on the right side
of my monitor.

I take a lot of photos and video. I copy them from my SD
card to an external hard drive. After I copy them I erase
them from my SD card.

This procedure helps me to keep everything straight so I
do not inadvertantly erase the files from the wrong place.

Short cut keys to move a window using the keyboard

Two-thirds of my Dell Inspiron 9200 17 inch wide, beautiful monitor is kaput. There was a manufacturing defect that caused many of
these laptop monitors to fail.

When I first noticed the problem, I checked with Dell, but I was out of the one-year warranty and they would not replace the screen.

The following year, they acknowledged the manufacturing defect and agreed to replace the monitors for free, within three years of
purchase. By the time I found out, my three years were up.

At first I had only lost the right two inches, so I was down to a 15 inch monitor. Still useable.

A couple of months ago, lost the left half of the screen, so now I am down to about a third strip on the right side, with some
vertical lines.

To buy a new monitor is about $300. Might as well buy a netbook.

Plugged an external monitor into the back and made the external monitor my primary display.

Most of the time this is fine, but if I happen to have the external monitor off when I turn on my computer, the laptop screen comes
up as the primary display.

I can right click and select properties in the working area, but the desktop settings open in the area of my screen that does not
work.

To move the window to the visible area, I need to move the window to the right using the keyboard. Here is how.

1. After opening the window, if no other windows are open and nothing else was done, the focus should be on the newly opened window.

2. Alt-spacebar should open the windows navigation drop down menu.

3. The m key should select the move function.

4. The arrow keys should move the window to the visible area, in my case, the right arrow.

The taskbar appears on the wrong monitor after you change the primary monitor in Windows XP

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type desk.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.

2. Click the Settings tab, and then click the monitor that you want to use as the primary monitor.

3. Click to select the Use this device as the primary monitor check box if it is not already selected.

Note: The Use this device as the primary monitor check box is unavailable if you click the monitor that is currently set as your
primary monitor.

4. Click the monitor that you want to use as the secondary monitor.

5. Click to clear the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor check box, and then click Apply.

6. Click to select the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor check box, and then click Apply.
